Yinzer Tea: Slippy
Yinzer Tea: Slippy
Description: Slippy is Pittsburghese for slippery. See 'round these parts, we drop letters, syllables, and sometimes even whole words. Pittsburghers, or Burghers as we call ourselves, tend to mesh words together to create our own whole dictionary of terms. Slippy is one of them.
It isn't unheard of to hear a mom yelling to her kids, "Careful! It's slippy aht dere!"
Our slippy is a blend of slippery elm bark and chai like spices. Sip it on days when you have a sore throat for some relief. We were also turned onto the fact that it makes an amazing hot toddy, which of course we had to try. OMG! DO IT! Besides the fact that the tea is soothing for your throat, add in some honey, lemon and a little of grandma's cough syrup and you'll be back to good in no time.
